Silmar® brand SIL66 resins are the most widely used resin for surfboard manufacturing and hand laminating in the industry. In fact, they are sold throughout the world. These resins feature low color (almost water clear) and excellent UV-resistance (UV-stabilized). They have remarkable stability for consistent viscosity and excellent wet out and gel times. All contain Silmar’s proprietary promoter package designed for surfboard production and room temperature cure.
Our SIL66BQ-249A has been the best-selling surfboard resin in the world with a sales volume that exceeds all other resin competitors combined. In 1961, in Hawthorne, California the Beach Boys developed their unique and lasting Surfing sound. The unique and lasting quality of our SIL66BQ-249A was also developed in Hawthorne, California, that same year, at the Silmar® facility where Interplastic continues to make the SIL66 family of resins. In 2021, Interplastic celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Silmar® brand resins, still the best-selling resin for traditional surfboards.
The SIL66 product range consists of:
- the original 249 family
- the alternate 250 versions that contain wax
- the newest, 2880 family, which features an acrylic modified formulation.
SIL66BE-249ALH
This resin is a low Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP) version of SIL66BQ-249A.
SIL66BQ-250A
This resin is SIL66-BQ-249A but with wax added, for use as a sanding resin, as a "hot coat" finishing coat, for a tack-free cured finish with a slight wax bloom.
SIL66BF-250ALH
This is a low Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP) version of SIL66BQ-250A.
SIL66BE-249B
This resin is SIL66BQ-249A but with added optical brightener (blue tint) that results in white polyurethane blank foam surfboards appearing as a brighter white. Other colors will be more muted.
SILBE-249BLH
This is a low Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP) version of SIL66BQ-249B
SIL66BE-249BB
This resin is SIL66BE-249B but with a darker optical brightener (blue tint) than SIL66BE-249B, that results in a brighter white than with SIL66BE-249B. Other colors will be more muted.
SIL66BE-2880
This resin, released in 2014, is enhanced via an acrylic-modified polyester formulation. This resin has better UV-resistance than other surfboard resins, is tougher, and has improved impact resistance to reduce stress and deck cracks. SIL66BE-2880 contains the same optical brightener as SIL66BE-249B.
